Former Congress MP Virji Thummar has been registered for a non-cognisable offence in Amreli district, Gujarat, for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thummar clarified that his intention was not to hurt anyone but to raise the voice of the public. The Amreli city police registered the offence based on a complaint filed by the BJP's Amreli district unit. Thummar allegedly made objectionable remarks against Modi during a Congress party programme on December 22.
